What we do

The challenge urban poor is huge because half or more of the city population lives in the minimum or no facilities. The poor in the slum colonies face extreme challenges on all fronts, MUST take a serious view of it. We also take every effort to involve meaningfully to facilitate abundant life to the poor. Our regular Programs include Childcare, Education & literacy, Skill development, Women empowerment, Awareness, HIV Care, Community Health, Discipleship, Youth & Family care, Social empowerment etc.

We are involved in the following programs for the benefit of the poor people from the slum areas...

1. Child Care

Through childcare programs MUST has taken initiative to educate the children and to improve their moral ethical and social life for a better future. We conduct study camps, retreats and character-building workshops for the children. We make every effort with support curricula to make children grow wholistically within their home and community. At present we also have around 10 children, who have been picked up from challenging backgrounds from different slums, who are being educated in different boarding schools and homes.

2. Educational Programs

MUST conducts special tuition classes for school going students. A large number of children from different slums have been benefited through these projects. At present almost 200 students are educated from 16 different slums, through 16 tuition centers with tutors teaching them.

3. Awareness

Two major awareness Programs had been taken up by MUST. First, health and hygiene awareness by which people are made aware of their need of keeping their surroundings neat and clean. Second, HIV-AIDS awareness through which a large number of people in the community especially youths, are made aware how to protect themselves from different infections and the spread of HIV-AIDS. This has been done through Street plays, counseling, Medical camps etc.

4. Women Empowerment

Women are the breadwinners in most of the communities. Most of them work as maids. In order to support such women we train them in tailoring, crochet, embroidery, crafts etc. We intend to build it up to a livelihood project for the women in a sustainable model.

Presently we have four tailoring training centers, in four different areas of the city, training 50 woman. Our dream is that each of them learn the trade and become independent to handle tailoring work and grow as entrepreneurs.

5. HIV - Counseling and Community Care

Our program for them includes, counseling the patients and their relatives that they may be cared within their home and communities. We also provide medical care and treatment from time to time, medical test and nutrition (daily provision) program.

We net-work with hospitals, like minded NGOs and organizations, to make sure that the patients get treatment and care. It is a challenge, to see the patients through rejection, depression and suicidal tendencies.

We also have “Shishrusha Yojana”, a medical treatment fund as none of them are covered under any health insurance.
